Garage Door Cable Repair

Garage door cables work hand-in-hand with the springs to carry the door's weight. When a cable frays, slips off the drum, or snaps, the door often hangs crooked, jams in the track, or won't move at all — and a loaded cable under tension is genuinely dangerous to poke at. We repair and replace garage door cables across Greater Vancouver for $159–$229, usually the same day. Out here the coastal rain, salt air and damp garages rust cables from the inside out, so we always inspect both sides and the spring set while we're there. You'll get a written quote first and a workmanship guarantee on the repair.

Straight answers

Frequently asked questions

Why did my garage door cable snap?

Usually age and corrosion. Metro Vancouver's damp, salty coastal air rusts the thin galvanized strands over time, and a frayed cable eventually lets go — often right after a spring breaks and overloads it. Cables can also jump the drum if the door comes off balance.

Is a broken cable dangerous?

A cable that's still attached can be under heavy spring tension, and a door with one snapped cable can drop or twist suddenly. Don't operate the opener and keep kids and cars clear until it's fixed. We handle it safely with the spring tension released properly.

Do you replace both cables at once?

We recommend it. Cables wear as a pair, so if one has corroded or frayed enough to fail, the other isn't far behind. Doing both keeps the door balanced and saves you a second call-out — and it's a small part cost.

Can I still use my garage door with a frayed cable?

Please don't. A frayed cable can snap mid-travel and let the door fall or bind in the track, damaging panels and rollers. Pull the manual release if needed and call us — same-day cable repair is one of our quickest visits.
