A genuinely good company with a genuinely bad name
We named ourselves Sketchy because that's exactly how the garage-door trade can feel. Then we built the opposite.
Sketchy name. Spotless work.
If you've ever Googled "garage door repair near me," you know the feeling: pages of $19.99 ads, identical "trusted, same-day, licensed & insured" copy, and a quiet worry that whoever shows up will quote one number on the phone and a much bigger one in your driveway. The BBB and industry groups warn about it constantly — fake company names, bait pricing, no written estimates, unmarked vans.
We're Canadian-owned and run by garage-door techs who got tired of watching neighbours get burned. So we did something a little contrarian: we named the company after the thing you're afraid of — Sketchy — and then made it impossible for us to actually be sketchy. Marked van. Written quotes. Real licensing. A guarantee with teeth.
What "licensed & insured" actually means (we're precise about it)
Here's a bit of honesty most companies skip: garage-door technician is an unregulated trade in British Columbia — there is no provincial trade licence or certificate for it. So when a competitor says "licensed," it can't mean a trade ticket, because none exists. We tell you exactly what ours means:
- Licensed — we hold a municipal business licence to operate.
- Insured — we carry commercial general liability insurance.
- WorkSafeBC-covered — our work is covered, so you're not on the hook if something goes wrong on your property.
We'll never imply an official trade certification that doesn't exist. That precision is the whole point of a company called Sketchy.
How we work
Call or text, tell us what the door's doing (a photo helps), and we'll give you a real arrival window — same day for most repairs. On site, we diagnose, explain the options in plain language, and put the price in writing before we start. You approve it; then we fix it. Quality parts, balanced door, tidy garage, and a workmanship guarantee when we leave.
